Apple upgrades some features

A massive upgrade to the iPod touch was announced earlier at Apple’s special event. Although the most outwardly impressive revisions come by way of front and rear facing cameras and the retina display, perhaps more significant was the announcement that the device would house the same chip capably powering the iPhone 4 and the iPad — the Apple A4

Secret behind Apple’s iPad sales

5:42 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Apple has shipped 7.5 million iPads since it launched in April, turning it into the largest player in the tablet computer market. The company grabbed that position in just six months thanks to its focus on a single device and surprising contributions from enterprise sales, Apple executives said on its quarterly conference call to discuss earnings.

Apple sold 4.19 million iPads  in its most recent quarter, and 3.27 million iPads in the quarter before that. About two-thirds of the 100 largest companies in the world on the Fortune 100 list have begun deploying iPads for enterprise use, leading to a lot of growth in the corporate sector that has helped drive iPad sales, said Tim Cook, chief operating officer of Apple. Nearly 85 percent of those companies have also deployed the iPhone for enterprise use, he said.
“I’ve never seen an adoption rate on the enterprise side like this in my life. Enterprise is historically much slower moving on adoption,” he said. “We have built and are building additional capacity to call on businesses, and we’re putting a lot of energy into that — we aren’t treating this lightly or as a hobby.”

Apple will rule the PC world

8:26 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
The Mac is unlikely to take Apple Inc to the leader’s board for PC sales. It is still considered too much of a niche product. And, netbooks, which were until recently the hot sellers among personal computers, were not a sector where Apple had a inexpensive offering.
But, the tablet PC phenomenon has put Apple into position where it may become a leader in overall computer sales. New data from Gartner shows the table PC sales will hit almost 20 million this yeas, worldwide. The number is expected to hit 55 million next year and 214 million in 2014
Windows-based PC companies have been slow into the tablet market which Apple continues to dominate. The one sector where they enjoyed some growth is the sector that tablet PC sales will decimate.

why Apple is interested to hire bloggers?

9:15 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Apple may be interested in hiring a professional blogger, or some other form of PR worker atypical for the company, a sighting in Cupertino suggests. TechCrunch's mobile industry editor, Greg Kumparak, was reportedly seen meeting recently with three Apple employees at a restaurant called BJ's, located in front of the Apple campus. Early into the meal one of the Apple people gave Kumparak a folder with an Apple logo on it, thought to be a job offer packet.

iPad turns into the Most Quickly-Adopted Electronics gadget

8:51 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
The sales figures from the iPad continue to exceed the predictions of even the most optimistic Apple fans.
Today crown the iPad as the consumer electronic with the fastest adoption rate ever, stealing the title from the once-coveted DVD player.

The iPad sold 3 million units in the first 80 days after its release in April, and its current sales rate is about 4.5 million units per quarter, says Bernstein Research, a rate far surpassing that of the first iPhone.

Android is a goldmine for Google

8:15 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses

Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, consider that Android is building money for the search giant, and declares it has already covered the price of its development in increased advertising income.

The detail comes in a fawning article about the open-source OS from Newsweek, covering how Android was developed by one man with a vision (Andy Rubin) who now has "virtually unlimited resources" to make it great. But the interesting part of the piece is Eric Schmidt's assertion that despite giving the OS away, Google still turns a profit on it.

he premise is that Android makes it easier for mobile users to get onto the internet, and that every internet user generates advertising revenue for Google. The corporation reasons, therefore, that if there were no Androids, there would be fewer people online and thus less revenue for Google...

( Apple) The First BitTorrent iPhone app

8:09 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Apple appears to have approved an iPhone application capable of managing BitTorrent downloads.

BitTorrent, a free, open source file-sharing application for distributing large software and media files, while has wholly legitimate uses for businesses, organisations and individuals, can be used for sharing illegal files and infringing copyrights.

The iPhone application, IS Drive allows users to check and manage downloads from ImageShack.us, which offers image hosting, free photo sharing and video sharing, along with the company's paid download BitTorrent service.

TorrentFreak, a weblog dedicated to bringing the latest news about BitTorrent, claims IS Drive may have slipped through Apple's approval process simply by avoiding using the term BitTorrent.

iPhone and Android Will Soon Taste Glasses-free 3D

7:16 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Right now the entire handheld gaming community is on its toes for the Nintendo 3DS, but apparently the 3DS would be the second device to give glasses-free 3D display if these select apps beat it to the App stores of each company.
Now your probably wondering how will the phones achieve such an amazing height? well with a little help from 3DeeSlide, which will have support for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and even the iPad in the fall. This is basically a lens you mount on your iPhone and is part of what makes the glasses-free 3D possible, and no this thing isn’t as expensive as you might think, this amazing lens only costs a mere $20. Now that we know how the iPhone’s are supposed to get 3D when will we know how the Android’s will get 3D? as we all know Android devices come in all shapes and sizes and making a lens for each individual device might be a little hard wouldn’t it? ...

Google Sees Bing As Real Threat

9:17 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Google chief executive Eric Schmidt on Friday said that Microsoft's Bing search engine was the company's main threat, not Facebook or Apple.

"While it's true Web search is not the only game in town, searching information is what it is all about," Schmidt said in Wall Street Journal interview video posted online.

He described Apple as a well-respected competitor and Facebook as a "company of consequence doing an excellent job in social networking," but said that Microsoft's latest-generation search engine was Google's main competition.

We consider neither to be a competitive threat," Schmidt said, referring to Facebook and Apple. "Absolutely, our competitor is Bing. Bing is a well-run, highly competitive search engine."
Microsoft's Bing and other Internet search services overtook Yahoo! for the first time to become the number two search engine in the United States in August, according to The Nielsen Co....

Apple iPhone 4.1 iOS Jailbreak, But Why Jailbreak The OS?

3:27 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Apple Inc. recently released the iPhone 4G iOS 4.1, but there are hackers who just want to jailbreak it, and the reason is why are they jailbreaking it so early. One of the main reasons that the users want to jailbreak the latest iOS is for the Cydia applications
and that one can also use the GameCenter on their iPhone 3G with Redsn0w 0.9.6.
But is jailbreaking the iPhone is really an easy task. What some users are trying to do is that they are going for the Sn0wBreeze 2.0.1 download, which also bring in the risk of Greenpoison Download. So with all so much of risks involved, why Jailbreak then.
Jailbreaking has been done legally in some of the countries, and yes people do risk their gadgets in jailbreaking. But then there are some advantages after one jailbreaks an Apple device, one can open applications
which Apple has prohibited to. There are some tit bits for jailbreaks on the Apple
device, and we think if one goes for jailbreaking their device, they should do it safely.

Hackers bring Apple's Game Center to the Iphone 3G

9:37 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
THANKS TO THE EFFORTS of the Iphone Dev Team, Iphone 3G owners can now run Apple's Game Center.
Apple, in its typical zeal that giveth with one hand only to taketh with the other, had decided to turn the games matchmaking service off for Iphone 3G users that run IOS 4.1. However thanks to the operating system having been jail broken, users can now run the program with few problems.
The procedure is a little more tricky than jailbreaking, however the majority of work centers around editing plist text files. A video has been posted showing that an Iphone 3G is more than capable of running Game Center, even though it has a slower processor than the Iphone 3GS or Iphone 4.
IOS 4.0 did cause Iphone 3G users serious problems, with phones grinding to a halt. Apple has mitigated the problem to some degree with IOS 4.1, and while not all of the IOS 4 features are present when installed on an Iphone 3G, it was surprising to see Apple leave out its popular Game Center application.......

INQ Facebook phone rumors are true

10:27 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
We guessed the latest batch of Facebook phone rumors from this morning wouldn’t be the last we’d hear about the supposed INQ mobile/Facebook collaboration, and on cue a new set of tidbits have arrived.  GigaOm have been piecing together their own sources and have fleshed things out a little: they say Bloomberg’s H1 2011 timescale is over-confident but that the first network to see the Facebook phone will be Hutchinson’s 3, likely with a Spotify bundle in tow.  While they reiterate that the vaunted AT&T deal hasn’t been finalized yet, they also say that, if Spotify manage their predicted December US launch, access could also be bundled on the AT&T version of the smartphone(s)....

Verizon CEO hopes Apple will offer iPhone for its 4G network

9:59 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Verizon's chief executive said this week he hopes Apple will build an iPhone compatible with his company's forthcoming 4G LTE network, downplaying rumors of an iPhone launch on his company's existing CDMA network in early 2011.

Ivan Seidenberg made the comments Thursday at an investor conference, according to The Associated Press. Though he said nothing about an iPhone being built for his company's current CDMA network, he said he hopes Apple will allow Verizon to sell a smartphone for its forthcoming long-term evolution 4G network.

The CEO's comments come as rumors have steadily built for months that Apple is prepared to launch a Verizon-compatible CDMA iPhone in early 2011. This week, overseas suppliers indicated to one Wall Street analyst that Apple will begin manufacturing a CDMA iPhone in December of this year...

Is The Rumores Are True About The BlackBerry tablet PC Called BlackPad

3:25 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses

BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion will have a lot to prove if it releases a much-anticipated tablet PC.
Citing unnamed sources, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that the so-called BlackPad could be unveiled as early next week at a developer's conference in San Francisco. The actual device is expected to become available in the fourth quarter, the Journal said.
A RIM spokesperson told USA TODAY that it does not comment on rumors and speculation.

RIM has been losing ground in the smartphone arena that has been its traditional stronghold. Researcher Gartner predicts that phones running the BlackBerry operating system will account for 11.7% of the worldwide market by 2014, down from 17.5% this year.....

The rumors were true. Apple issued a press release today announcing that the iPhone 4 will be released in China on September 25 through China Unicom stores and through two new Apple stores — one in Beijing and one in Shanghai.
The Chinese iPhone 4 won’t differ significantly from the devices sold in other countries. FaceTime, Retina display, LED flash and HD video are all there. That said, the iPhone 4 won’t be cheap there. According to the press release, the 16 GB model will sell for 5,999 yuan and the 16 GB for 4,999. That’s roughly $890 and $740, respectively.....

Google Voice App for iPhone

2:19 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses

The developer of another Google Voice app for iPhone — “GV Mobile +” — said that Apple approved his app today. Yesterday, GV Connect appeared on the App Store, marking another reversal of Apple’s policy. Apple initially allowed Google Voice apps, but then banned them from the App Store because they “duplicated” existing iPhone features.
Anyone familiar with Google Voice  knows that’s not a fair assessment. The apps provided a completely different spin on said features (the phone dialer, text messaging and others) through the Google Voice service, which allows you to create and use a virtual phone number of your choosing, chock full of unusual extras not currently possible on most cell phones or land lines......click read more below

[SURVEY] Predictable Trends Among Mobile Phone Users

3:41 AM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Pew Internet has just completed a survey of nearly 2000 mobile users in the US and has come up with some not particularly startling statistics about phone and app usage. Still, it’s good to have some cold hard numbers to look at, even if the sample size seems a bit small. Here are a few highlights from the survey and writeup:
  • 23% of Americans are now landline-free
Higher than I expected. I suspect a fair amount of people with land lines these days are more or less required to have them as part of a internet or cable deal.
  • 24% of mobile users are active app users
That is, 24% use their apps regularly, as opposed to simply having apps sitting there on their phone.
  • Apps rank low on non-voice activities
Pew mentions that many apps are used for such things as text messages, picture taking, and so on, but the structure of the survey didn’t allow for this kind of flexibility.
  • 13% of users have paid for an app
Whether this is high or low is kind of a matter of perspective. Two years ago this number was probably more like 2%.
  • Median number of installed apps is 10, average is 18
You seem to be either a light or a heavy app user, not too many people in between. This stat likely owes a lot to the age gap as well. The young people have way more apps than the geezers....

iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch to Get Wireless Printing with iOS 4.2

9:44 PM Reporter: Rai Sajid 0 Responses
Apple has announced that the latest beta of its iOS 4.2 software comes with printer support. The AirPrint feature allows users of the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch to print wirelessly over Wi-Fi, without needing to install drivers or software.
Although the software is currently only available through Apple’s iOS develop program, Apple says iOS 4.2 will be ready for the masses in November. The first devices to support AirPrint will be HP’s line of ePrint enabled printers.
AirPrint is said to support a full range of print functions through iOS, including page range selection as well as single-sided and double-sided printing. It will also feature a Print Center that coordinates your print queue, so you can keep track of the progress from across the office if you’re so inclined
