The solar bikini

12:36 AM Posted by Rai Sajid
The ever-changing technology industry is a hard market to keep up with. Today, electronic devices like smartphones and tablets are so advanced they can do just about anything but read you a bedtime story (there’s actually probably an app for that) and they are only getting more sophisticated as developers discover more and more ways to simplify our lives with the help of each mobile device.
I thought I’d seen it all when I read about the robot that will fetch you a beer from your refrigerator, but this one might take the cake.
Earlier this week, the Huffington Post (News - Alert) shared a story about a solar powered bikini that can charge your gadgets, that is sure to have tech geeks everywhere running from behind their computer screens and heading to the beach.

For all you ladies out there who have a hard time balancing working on your tan and keeping up with the latest electronics, an American designer has come up with just the solution for you.  The Solar Bikini was designed by Andrew Schneider of Brooklyn, NY and uses the sun’s rays to power iPods, iPhones and any other gadget with a USB connector.

According to the report, the suit uses conductive thread and thin photo-voltaic panels, creating a sort of chain-mail fabric that gives the bikini a medieval armor-meets-21st century look. The solar power absorbed by the panels charges any gadget that can be plugged into the suit's USB ports, sewn right into the fabric.
And get this; it can even be worn in the water, as long as you are sure to dry the solar suit off before plugging any electronics back into it. Wouldn’t want to get fried!
Don’t worry, for all you men who are feeling left out, you can always buy a solar bikini for your lady until Schneider releases the iDrink, his version of a men’s swimsuit that is currently in development and uses the same technology to keep your beers cold.
Don’t expect to see me charging my iPod on the beach anytime soon, but I suppose this swimsuit would suffice for those using electronics like e-Readers or laptops at the beach. This suit certainly takes multi-tasking to a whole new level, but in my honest opinion, if you can’t go two hours without your mobile device, you’re probably better off sticking to a hangout with electrical outlets!
